The Indian education landscape has undergone a significant shift with the introduction of CUET (Common University Entrance Test) as the primary mode of admission to central universities and several other institutions. Launched by the National Testing Agency (NTA), CUET aims to create a uniform, transparent, and merit-based system for undergraduate admissions. But while the goal is national standardization, the real impact of CUET is complex and still evolving.
For decades, students were admitted to colleges based on Class 12 board results, with each university following its own criteria. This led to disparities due to varying difficulty levels across state boards. CUET levels the playing field by offering a common assessment, allowing students from any background to compete fairly.

As CUET becomes more established, it’s essential to address its implementation challenges: accessibility to coaching, digital literacy, and exam anxiety. Schools, teachers, and policymakers must work together to make CUET preparation inclusive, affordable, and student-friendly.
CUET marks a paradigm shift in India’s college admission process. While it brings standardization and wider access, it also demands reforms in teaching methods, assessment strategies, and student support systems. If implemented thoughtfully, CUET has the potential to transform Indian higher education for the better.
