In a landmark move to strengthen student safety and accountability across schools, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it compulsory to install CCTV cameras in key areas of all affiliated institutions. According to the new directive, all CBSE schools must ensure proper surveillance systems are active in classrooms, corridors, and entry and exit points. This measure aims to create a secure, transparent, and disciplined environment for both students and teachers.
The CBSE’s decision is a proactive step toward addressing rising safety concerns, especially incidents related to student misconduct, bullying, or unauthorized access. With real-time monitoring, schools can now ensure that classroom activities are appropriately supervised, and any security lapses can be detected and addressed immediately. The directive applies to both private and public schools under CBSE, and institutions failing to comply may face penalties or derecognition.
CCTV footage will also help in verifying claims made during complaints or investigations, thereby maintaining fairness and clarity. Moreover, the presence of cameras is expected to deter unwanted behavior and foster a more responsible and alert attitude among staff and students.
While some concerns about privacy have been raised, the CBSE has emphasized that the focus remains on safety, and recordings will be handled with confidentiality and used strictly for official purposes. Parents have welcomed the move, noting that it offers peace of mind regarding their children’s well-being on school premises.
With this mandatory policy, CBSE is setting a national benchmark in education infrastructure, placing student safety as a top priority and promoting a culture of vigilance and responsibility in schools.
